Once we decided to move to Wellington, NZ from Cambridge, UK , we had started searching the right ‘right’ childcare place for Dennis. Shortly after our arrival, Dennis and I had visited a few of childcare centres in Wellington. Initially, we were not quite happy with the standard of the childcare centres we visited. They were either too crowded or not up to the standard we were expecting. Capital City Preschool was certainly an exception! The staff were very welcoming and everything was well organised. Dennis was very happy and he had immediately started running around and playing! I was quite attracted by the teachers who were sitting around children and were conducting different kinds of group activities. In the meantime, Andrina (one of the school teachers) was showing me around the Preschool with great enthusiasm - not only the Preschool’s teaching philosophy, programme but also children’s development and their relationship with families. On the way home, Dennis and I talked about what we liked about the Preschool. It was a quick decision. I telephoned my husband and said: ‘We’ve found a nice school for Dennis’.
Dennis has been in the school since March 2012. He loves to go to the Preschool everyday without any effort on our side. He has learnt how to build up friendships with children whom he has just met. He has lots of good friends at the preschool, and we constantly learn about their names at home. He enjoys ‘news time’ where he can share his toys/books/games in front of children in the Preschool, and we really enjoy discussing what he wants to take to the Preschool for his news time. He has also developed an interest in practising alphabets and learning numbers. He loves to share his experiences with us about his gym (mini-mover) and music classes.
The Preschool provides a good balance of structure and free learning for Dennis, which has assisted Dennis in developing his independence and confidence in his early life. We are very pleased to find the Capital City Preschool for Dennis. Highly recommended!
